Who am I?

Hello there! I’m Shelby Smith, and I have a heartfelt mission: to support people navigating tough times in their lives. My journey began when I, too, faced challenges with my mental health and searched for help. I tried a variety of services, some of which didn’t quite hit the mark, but a few were truly amazing and transformative. Those positive experiences ignited a passion in me; I wanted to be that source of support for others, just like some had been for me. I kicked things off by volunteering as a wellbeing worker in group settings, which only deepened my enthusiasm for helping others. That led me to start an apprenticeship as a wellbeing group worker, where I truly discovered my dedication for working with people. I had the pleasure of running school wellbeing groups and helping run youth groups, and it was incredible to see the positive impact I was making on young people’s wellbeing and mental health. After that, I explored some wonderful teaching assistant roles in SEND schools, along with diving into counselling training. I was then fortunate enough to land my dream job at The Market Place Leeds, where I worked in their drop-in service providing one-on-one sessions. This role holds a special place in my heart as I was once a service user there, and it was one of the amazing services that played a huge role in my own mental health journey. Though the service sadly closed due to funding in September 2025, I view this as a gentle nudge to embark on my own wellbeing venture. I can’t wait to continue helping people by sharing the magic of my experiences and the knowledge I’ve gathered along the way!
